Former Washington Nationals Right Fielder Bryce Harper was offered two contracts one from the Los Angeles Dodgers and one from the Philadelphia Phillies. Harper was offered these huge contracts because he was the best player available in Baseballs free agent market at the time based on his career stats.
The contract from the Dodgers was valued at $300 million for over 10 years getting $45 million a year. The contract from the Phillies was valued at $330 million for over 13 years getting $30 million a year being the largest contract in Major League Baseball (MLB) history.
The reason the Phillies offered Bryce Harper this contract in the first place is because of his stats. Such as throughout his career he got 184 out of 922 home runs, and he ran 610 out of 922 times. He also won numerous awards some are the Rookie of the year award in 2012, and numerous player of the week awards in 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018.
Harper took quite a while to decide which contract he would select. The Phillies and Dodgers management took several trips to Harper’s Las Vegas home to convince him to join the Phillies. This process took many weeks. As the Phillies and Dodgers fans waited in anticipation for his decision. Finally, Harper ended the painful waiting game and on March 2, 2019 by signing the contract offer with the Phillies.
