At Franklin Learning Center, some FLC students start their fitness activities right after school ends, heading to the local Planet Fitness located down the street at 510 N Broad St.
Sophomore music major Patrick Webb began his fitness journey to sculpt his body into a piece of art.
“I felt…a very skinny feeling, a little bit of body dysmorphia every time I look[ed] in the mirror,” Webb said.
Webb travels to the gym to keep his training regimen on schedule.
“On Mondays, I start with [push exercises],” Webb said. “Then on Tuesdays, I do a pull day…, on Wednesdays, I do legs and I repeat that and… I [also] start with heavyweights, [and] do compound movements like squats, bench, and deadlift.”
Planet Fitness takes on a life of its own after the many schools around Broad and Spring Garden dismiss their thousands of students.
“[It’s loud and it’s very crowded] on…Mondays and Fridays usually,” and [there are] people in Planet Fitness [who are] … beginners and out of shape people [who want to get better],” Webb said.
FLC sophomore Jesus Ramos also has a training regimen that uses almost all of the machines in Planet Fitness.
“I think I started going to the gym until eighth grade but my trainer motivated me to go and that’s why I started going ever since,” Ramos said.
Webb and Ramos spend about one hour to one hour and thirty minutes doing their training in Planet Fitness. Both said that they would stop by at their home to get a meal before going to the gym.
“I have a high-protein diet. So when I get home, I eat some chicken breasts out of the can or some rice…when I get home after the gym, I like protein shakes, [and] It’s like 90 grams of protein,” according to Webb. Ramos has a similar diet and routine as well.
For any students who are getting into fitness, Webb says to stay strong. Ramos says to listen to Vegeta from the anime “Dragon Ball Z” as your mentor throughout the fitness journey.
