FLC senior wins first place for photojournalism at CSPA

Franklin Learning Center senior Sophia Cissé received first place in the Single Feature Photograph category from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association this month. Her winning portrait of Phedora Jean-Phillipe beat out over was originally taken for an article on the 2018 midterm elections.

Students from The Flash FLC also placed second in the Video News Package category. Junior Hannah Woodruff, along with Dariana Garcia-Bernabe, Anannya Kundu, and Bwe Ku (class of 2019), created their award winning piece for PBS Newshour Student Reporting Labs on the efforts to silence Tom Quinn and his students’ voting registration campaign.

The Flash FLC was one of over 5,000 other publications participating in the CSPA competition.
