FLC Soccer Excels Through Diversity

As you may know Franklin Learning Center has many sports teams, one of the many sports FLC offers is soccer. The soccer team went undefeated in the regular season until they got to the playoffs.

The team has worked very hard to be where they are now (Category B). They are very dedicated to winning but they don’t only play to win. They play because that’s what they love to do.

What you may not know is that the soccer team is not only successful but also multi-school, multi-gendered, multilingual, and multicultural. There are three players on the team that attend a different school (Parkway), two females, and also most players speak different languages like French, Spanish, Arabic and English. However, on the field it doesn’t matter what language you speak or if you’re a girl or boy, or what school you come from; on the field they are united as one.

Although the team is very diverse there hasn’t been any miscommunications, rivals or fights. On the field the players use body language and outside of the field the team speaks in what little they know of English, Spanish, Arabic, or French to each other. The most spoken language, though, is English.

One of the keys to the team’s success is their multilingual coach. Mr. Benabdellah Moueddene is fluent in English, French, Spanish, Arabic. This allows him to communicate with every member of the team even when they cannot communicate with each other. Despite their diversity of language, gender, culture, and school, the FLC soccer team doesn’t need to be the same to prevail at the game they love.
