Joy for The Holidays

Joy for The Holidays

This holiday season, Franklin Learning Center is participating in a holiday toy drive for The Center for Autism, whose goal is to help children withautism in Philadelphia and its surrounding counties. A non-profit organization, The Center for Autism helps over 400 children. Ms. Fox, a pre-calculus teacher, is one of the sponsors behind the toy drive happening here at FLC.

FLC’s participation in the toy drive this year is a first. “I have a friend that works at The Center for Autism and I saw that they were looking for schools to host so I wanted to get involved,” explains Ms. Fox. The ultimate goal is to receive as many toys as possible to bring the children holiday joy.

However, so far not many toys have been donated. “We need to do a better job to get the kids to participate [because] we haven’t gotten many toys yet.” To increase participation, Ms. Fox will give extra credit to her students if they donate some toys. If students cannot bring in toys, they are also allowed to give Ms. Fox money for the cause.

Ms. Fox ends by saying, “I just want our FLC family to support The Center for Autism and bring some toys in.”

The drive needs toys for children ages 2 to 16. New toys like Lego, Barbies, action figures, musical instruments, books, and many more items are acceptable. The last day to bring in donations is December 6th bring them to Mr. Arleth.
